Thank you for visiting the Rome City Schools Website. It is a pleasure to serve as the superintendent of Rome City Schools. I have been associated with Rome City Schools for twenty-seven years and have chosen to remain in Rome because of our outstanding school system. Rome City Schools is a very unique public school system. Our teachers recognize and address the needs of individual learners to maximize their full learning potential. All of our student class sizes meet or are below the state maximum class size. Outstanding teachers and smaller class sizes allow for wonderful opportunities to work with students in small groups, or one on one to address individual needs and interests of students.
Student achievement is the highest of priorities for the Rome City School System and our outstanding results on the state and national level prove this to be true. East Central Elementary, Elm Street Elementary, and West End Elementary have all been recognized as a Georgia School of Excellence. East Central and West End have earned this honor twice within the last ten years! On the secondary level, both Rome Middle School and Rome High School have also received the Georgia School of Excellence Award. The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement has recently recognized Rome Middle School with the Silver Award for academic improvement and East Central Elementary with the Platinum Award for sustained academic excellence. On the national level, Main Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006, and East Central Elementary received the National Blue Ribbon recognition in 2008! We are very proud of these accomplishments.
Rome City Schools has a rich academic curriculum that offers foreign language opportunities in French, Spanish, and German beginning in the seventh grade. The Rome Middle School curriculum also offers gifted and honors classes in mathematics and English Language Arts. At Rome High School, students may choose from three different endorsement programs; a tech prep endorsement, a college-prep endorsement, and a college-prep advanced endorsement with 17 advanced placement courses available for college credit! In addition to outstanding academics, Rome Middle School and Rome High School have exceptional, award winning athletic and fine arts programs to further engage our students.
All of our schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the Georgia Accrediting Commission. Rome City Schools consistently perform at or higher than the state average on state mandated tests. Rome High School students have scored above the national average on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) for the past eleven years. For 2009-2010 the national average score for the SAT was 1509. In that same year, Rome High School had 101 college preparatory students take the SAT and their average score was 1669! This is 160 points above the national average and 216 points above Georgia’s average! This places Rome City Schools with the highest SAT average of any school system in Georgia for 2010. Rome City Schools also had the highest SAT average in 2007 with an average of 1621! Rome City Schools is an excellent educational choice for students and parents.
We invite you to join the outstanding programs of Rome City Schools!
Sincerely,

Gayland Cooper
