Pride In Our Community

Rome's people have made it the economic, cultural, medical, and educational center of Northwest Georgia. Those same people who have worked to make Rome a great place to live, have consistently supported efforts to make the Rome City School System one of the best in the State of Georgia and the Southeast.

The Rome Board of Education and administration believe that skilled teachers are the vital link in the learning process. The Board is committed to providing an environment conducive to learning and a comprehensive educational program to meet the needs of each student.

Rome's people are proud of their community, with its scenic hills and three rivers winding through the center of the community. Rome is a modern city with a good selection of recreational and cultural activities. Rome boasts the oldest symphony orchestra in the south, the Rome Area Council for the Arts, an active little theatre group, several museums, a new modern public library, and fine arts exhibits.

We invite you to discover for yourself why Rome was recently named the number one most livable small city in the Southeast. Our community was also recognized by a national tennis publication as one of the top tennis communities in America.

Located only an hour's drive from Atlanta, Georgia to the south and Chattanooga, Tennessee to the north, Rome has a population of 30,000. It is the county seat of Floyd County, which has a total population of 80,000.

Rome's school system, which serves city residents, has approximately 5,000 students in pre-school through grade 12. The system, with eight elementary schools, one middle and one high school, and an alternative school, has more than 600 employees.

As the economic hub of Northwest Georgia, Rome has much to offer newcomers. It has recreational facilities, shopping, cultural advantages, churches, medical care, and of course friendly people. Some of these advantages include:

  • 20 parks and recreation areas that include facilities for swimming, tennis, running, indoor sports, boating, fishing, picnicking, hiking, softball and other outdoor activities;
