Pride In Our Programs
 

 

Rome City Schools' well-rounded programs are a source of pride for the system's administrators and teachers. These programs, developed over a number of years, have helped Rome City students to score very high on standardized achievement tests and perform well in the classroom. Some of these programs include:

  • a full-day kindergarten has operated far ahead of QBE requirements;

  • advanced degrees held by more than 60 percent of the Rome City Schools' teachers and administrators including Masters, Education Specialists, and Doctoral degrees.

  • with parental support vital for a strong school system, our schools enjoy the support of many parent groups with each school having a parent-teacher organization and booster club;

  • over 50 local businesses help individual schools with projects throughout the year to benefit the instructional process through the Partnerships-In-Education program;

  • a mentoring program growing rapidly;

  • computers, along with the latest software programs, used in all the Rome City Schools to teach computer skills and to augment the instructional program;

  • closed circuit television available in each classroom to augment regular instruction time;

  • full school-day programs for four-year-olds housed at Southeast, West Central, Anna K. Davie, Main and North Heights Schools;

  • excellent cafeteria participation with more than 92% of students eating nutritious and tasty lunches daily in the school cafeterias;

  • all schools feature breakfast programs;.

  • bus safety stressed on a continuing basis to all students who ride the modern fleet of city buses with an excellent safety record for transporting school children;

  • a Cities-In-Schools program at Rome High helps at-risk students set goals for the future and connect with many community services;

  • the Rome City School System implemented a strong drug education program to help deter students when drug abuse among young people became a strong concern;

  • an alternative school for students who are not experiencing success in the regular school setting operated by the system;

  • elementary school educational programs strengthened by counselors and art, music and physical education teachers;

  • the system offers a complete continuum of special education and related services for disabled children;

  • gifted programs designed to challenge students in ways that supplement their classroom learning available to eligible students;

  • the Rome Middle School program is based on the middle school concept with academic teams, interdisciplinary instruction, and exploratory opportunities;

  • remedial programs used to assist students needing a better understanding of basic skills

  • summer school offers students a chance to remediate certain skill deficiencies and allows gifted students the opportunity to find new challenges;

  • more than 50 extra-curricular activities available to students in the Rome system, many of which have earned statewide recognition;

  • Rome High's foreign language program offers students the opportunity to take French, Spanish, or German;

  • students at all levels given the opportunity to participate in a variety of visual and performing arts;

  • all media centers automated with students having access to an on-line catalog and a fully automated checkout system.

  • a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program offered at Rome High School;

  • a teacher cadet program at Rome High School encourages students to consider teaching as a career.
