Testing/Assessment
Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMA)
The Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMA) is an online, criterion-referenced, summative test created by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). GMA testing occurs for grades 3-12 in various subject areas and courses; please reference the chart below. The GMA measures how well students have learned the state-adopted content standards in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies and provides students, their parents, and teachers information about their achievement and readiness for the next level of learning/grade. The assessment consists of the following types of questions: multiple choice, constructed response, technology-enhanced, and a writing component. For students in grades 3-8, these assessments are given towards the end of the school year, and for high school students, these assessments are given upon completion of the course.
Rome City Schools administers the GMA to students in grades 3-8 in May and to students in grades 9-12 upon completion of the course, which is typically in December and May. The teachers use the data to determine a student’s summative achievement level and provide information concerning readiness for the next grade or course.
