During the called Rome City Schools Board meeting on Monday, February 28, 2022, members met to discuss the newly vacant board position created by the resignation of John Uldrick. Board Chair, Jill Fisher, laid out a recommended timetable to quickly fill the vacancy:
- The Rome City School Board invites all qualified persons to apply, as the position will be posted on the Rome City Schools website beginning March 1, 2022.
- The application window will remain open for 14 days, closing on March 15, 2022.
- All materials submitted by each candidate will be packaged for each Board member for review and consideration of appointment. March 22, 2022, a called Board meeting will take place to collectively review the applicants.
- A decision of appointment will be made on March 25, 2022.
The appointed person named to fill the vacant board position will serve until the November 2022 election. After this time, candidates will need to run and be elected by the public to fill the position until the next election.
To qualify for the position, the following criteria is required:
- The candidate must be a bona fide resident and citizen of the City of Rome and must be a registered voter of the City of Rome for at least 90 days.
- Individuals seeking appointment to the Board must be able to comply with Rome City Schools Board Policy BHA, “Board Member Conflict of Interest” and Board Policy GAG, “Staff Conflict of Interest.” (Board policies may be accessed on the Rome City Schools website, or a copy of board policies may be picked up at the Rome City Schools Board of Education.)
