Rome Varsity Football vs Woodstock High School Preview

Note: The game originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 30 was moved because of the possibility of bad weather. The game is Woodstock’s homecoming game.
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Woodstock is 0-5 overall, 0-1 in region 6-6A and unranked in Class 6A, Rome is 4-1 overall, 1-0 in region 6-6A and ranked No. 6 In Class 6A
History: This is the first time the two schools have met in football. Woodstock opened in 1997 and has reached the playoffs six times in school history. Their best finish came in 2008 when they advanced to the Class 5A Quarterfinals. They last reached the playoffs in 2017.
Woodstock: Woodstock has had a tough go out so far this season, dropping its first five games by fairly large margins. Those losses have come to solid teams Osborne (46-7), Hiram (49-9), Cherokee (34-6), Lassiter (64-14) and River Ridge (44-0).
Troy Hoff is in his second year as head coach at Woodstock. He is still waiting to get his first win at Woodstock.
Offensively, Woodstock has gotten production from sophomore quarterback Tyler Hoff, who has thrown for 339 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore tailback Isaiah Payton has rushed for 201 yards and one touchdown, while senior receiver Adonis Garcia and sophomore receiver Chase Collins each have over 100 yards receiving for the Wolverines.
Rome: The Wolves opened Region 6-6A play with a 42-19 victory over Allatoona at Barron Stadium. The Wolves forced four defensive turnovers in the contest with Alto Moore intercepting a pass and recovering a fumble, Jaedon Harmon recovering a fumble and Martel Hight intercepting a pass.
Offensively, quarterback Reece Fountain threw five touchdown passes in the win against the Buccaneers. Josh Ellard and Hight each caught two and DK Daniel came up with a touchdown grab as well, while tailback Chance Arthur scored on the ground. Jaedon Harmon also had a solid game running the ball.
Defensively, Moore, Tyson Brown, Stephiylan Green and a host of others limited Allatoona to less than 150 yards of offense in the game.
Region Race: Rome and Allatoona were the only region teams active last week, but every team but Allatoona is in action this week. Rome is one of four teams to start Region 6-6A play with a win this season. The others are River Ridge, Creekview and Sequoyah.
