High Quality Instructional Materials
In accordance with House Bill 538, Rome City Schools has adopted High Quality Instructional Materials to support literacy instruction for our elementary schools.
Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) was adopted in the Spring 2024 for implementation in Kindergarten to fifth grade. Amplify CKLA 3rd Edition, is a K–5 core literacy program within Amplify’s literacy suite. For more than a decade, Amplify CKLA has transformed classrooms nationwide with its intentional knowledge building and systematic skills instruction. Amplify CKLA follows the Core Knowledge Sequence, a content-specific, cumulative, and coherent approach to knowledge building. This approach improves reading scores and closes achievement gaps by establishing a robust knowledge base that strengthens comprehension. CKLA is also approved by the Georgia Department of Education on their newly released list of High Quality Instructional Materials and is based on the Science of Reading.
Amplify ELA, a blended English language arts curriculum designed specifically for middle schools, has been adopted for implementation in our sixth grade classes. With Amplify ELA, students dive into a range of rich and diverse texts, supported by strategic routines and a variety of interactions that develop the critical capacities and build the vocabulary, knowledge, and skills students need to read deeply. Students are engaged through dynamic texts, lively classroom discussions, and meaningful digital experiences.
EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) is used in our middle school for 7th & 8th grade. EL Education was recently identified and approved by the Georgia Department of Education as a literacy resource that has been identified as “High-Quality Instructional Material” and meets the state’s new legislative requirement for the use of instructional literacy materials that are based on the Science of Reading. All grade levels teach the Georgia standards throughout the year.
