Rome High School’s production of “Shuddersome Tales of Poe” once again wowed audiences and judges this past weekend as the show and its crew finished seventh at the Class 5A State One Act Competition at Cambridge High School.

“The kids did a great job. We went at nine in the morning, which is a tough sell for Edgar Allen Poe, but they gave it their all and had a really great performance. They were just excited to be there,” Rome High Theatre Director Alexis Tyson said. “It has been an amazing experience for me and the kids. We haven't been to state since 2008, and winning region was just incredible, especially with this group.”

Tyson, who started teaching at Rome High School when her current seniors were freshmen, said she has a special bond with this group.

“These seniors were my first group of freshmen coming in, so it's kind of been a really cool full-circle moment for them to get to go to state their senior year,” she said.

Along with placing seventh in the state, actors Millie Maloney and Laethan Day were named to the All-Star Cast.

“At region, Emerson Hunter and Millie Maloney were named All Star cast, and then Noah Beard was named best actor in the region. At state, Millie Maloney got All Star cast again, and Lathan Day was awarded All Star cast,” Tyson said. “That was really cool that we kind of got a good spread of kids getting recognized for their hard work.”
