That signature Rome City Schools red and gold decorated The Well at West Rome Baptist Church Saturday February 5, as coaches, families, players and supporters gathered for the third annual Meet the Wolves Baseball Banquet.
RCS Head baseball Coach Brent Tucker, explained that the preseason dinner kicks off the season ahead and allows for great fellowship amongst players, families and community members. “This is just a great time where we all come together, introduce our players, relax, and tell everybody how much we appreciate them and all of their support,” he said.
The event included a silent auction fundraiser to support the baseball program. As folks arrived they were able to browse the auction before dinner was served. The auction included items like a baseball autographed by Dansby Swanson, RCS baseball swag, bundles of goodies from local businesses, as well as a large Yeti cooler
complete with a matching tumbler and a hook and ring toss game.
Once dinner was served and finished, middle school players were introduced as the room erupted in applause.
Tucker introduced guest speaker, former MLB player Jesse Cross, who spoke directly to the boys, offering a few words of experience and inspiration, likening each pitch to a new moment of opportunity.
High school and varsity teams were then introduced, as they walked one by one down the center of the room, each sporting their crisp white jerseys.
“We’re excited about this season,” Tucker smiled. “The boys have been working really hard. We practice from about 3:45 to 7:00 every night, six days a week. So they’ve been putting their time in.”
Tucker said the first game of the season will be an away game on Feb. 15 against the Christian Heritage Lions, while the first home game is set for Feb. 17 against the Coahulla Creek Colts.
“We appreciate everybody,” Tucker added, “anywhere from administration, to superintendent, to board members, to the community for supporting us and giving these guys a great high school experience.”
