WEE Fall Festival 2021

The sound of children’s laughter, fun music, and lots of hoots and hollers filled the chilly Tuesday night air as West End Elementary School hosted their much-anticipated Fall Festival event.

Students and their families packed out the large outdoor area beside the school and could be found taking turns jumping on the multiple inflatables, racing each other in large potato sacks, and playing carnival-style games, all while enjoying pizza and lots of sugary snacks.

The Fall Festival was hosted by West End’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and served as a fun way to get all students and their families involved.

“The goal with hosting this Fall Festival is to just get our families out, engage with them and let them build relationships with other families, all while letting the kids have fun,” explained Dr. Dennis Drummond, Principal at West End Elementary School.

According to Dr. Drummond, all of the proceeds raised during the festival will benefit West End’s PTO, and that money goes directly back to their students and teachers.

“We like to make sure that our teachers have everything they need in order to be successful,” explained West End’s PTO President, Melanie Matteo.

Matteo was busy making sure everyone who attended the Fall Festival was having a great time, all while ensuring the event ran as smoothly as possible.

“I have always enjoyed giving back and seeing our students happy, so I am beyond excited that our Fall Festival has been such a hit,” she smiled.

Ariel Holbert, PTO Treasurer, echoed Matteo’s sentiments. “COVID, as we all know, has taken a lot away from our students. Being able to host a fun, outdoor event makes everything feel normal again. And these kids deserve a time to be carefree and have fun because they’ve worked so hard,” said Holbert.

West End third graders also took this time to showcase some of their musical talents as they performed in the courtyard during the festival.

“We are very pleased with the turnout tonight; it’s just great seeing all of our families out and having fun,” smiled Dr. Drummond.

GO WOLVES!
