Rome City Schools Called Board Meeting Aug. 22, 2022
ROME, GA— The Rome City Schools Board of Education met on Aug. 22, 2022, for a called meeting. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Board Chairperson Jill Fisher.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Dawn Williams presented the Board with information regarding budget amendments. Portions of the budget have increased due to expenditures such as the bonuses given to teachers and staff members of Rome City Schools. Dr. Williams said the system is also still awaiting funds from the City of Rome. Working on the budget for FY 2022 can run into July and August because of invoices not being processed until late in the year. Fisher reported that this is common when finalizing budget items from the previous year. Dr. Williams said that the summer months can also slow the process of receiving and processing invoices.
Dr. Williams advised the Board to continue to monitor the cost of the learning cottages on school campuses, an item that may need an amendment in the FY23 budget.
After the Board gained clarification on items in the FY22 budget, Dr. Williams recommended the Board approve the amendments to the FY 2022 budget. A motion was made by Faith Collins and a second by Dr. Melissa Davis. The amendments were unanimously approved.
The Board entered an executive session to discuss personnel.
Rome City Schools’ Interim Superintendent also detailed facilities changes to East Central and to West End after the executive session.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
